Sideloaded KEPUB book ISBN

Hi All,
I use the kepubify library in https://kobli.me to convert EPUBs to KEPUBS (I'm the author of koblime)

I notice that when the Kobo detects the KEPUB, it generates a GUID for the book in the KoboReader.sqlite Db even though there is a valid ISBN in the KEPUB metadata. I have tried both Calibre and Sigil to set the ISBN on the KEPUB.

The ISBN is in the dc:identifier field. Should I be setting the ISBN elsewhere?

Out of curiosity, why are you looking for the ISBN in the the KoboReader.sqlite database? As far as I have ever seen, all kepubs get that UUID/GUID identifier whether sideloaded or synced from Kobo and the ISBN is not used. In point, most epubs that I've looked at lately have tended to use this format for the book identifier though there may be many other dc:identifiers present:

<dc:identifier id="uid">urn:uuid:444a7d08-5362-4faf-976e-3b80c80d66fe</dc:identifier>

I use the ISBN to look up the book metadata as I don't host any files on Koblime. I was under the impression that the UUID/GUID was randomly generated by Kobo each time the book is side-loaded. I'll double-check that it's indeed coming from the book metadata. I wonder what the kobo does if there is no uid in the metadata. Will run some experiments.

Thanks!

I just ran a test with a <dc:identifier> in the file and the ISBN field was null in the KoboReader.sqlite db.

V1 UUID/GUIDs use a mix of fixed and random while a V4 uses completely random. V5 used a known namespace and an input string to generate an UUID/GUID.

See A Complete Guide to UUID Versions (v1, v4, v5) for more boredom.
