Class definition not always found

In texts, when you hold down CTRL and click on a class, you can jump to its definition in the CSS stylesheet.

Text:
<p class="small">...

Stylesheet:
.small {
 font-size: x-small;
}

p.small {
 font-size: x-small;
}

However the first definition of "small" is found, the 2nd is not, even when it is the sole definition present in the stylsheet.
Is this correct behavior?

But it should have failed on either of your style definitions.
And remember: The viewer is way too forgiving of errors. Device tests are needed.

Yes, the '-' is just a slip of my pen; of course I meant "=".
But still, the net result is the same: unqualified definitions are found, but none of the qualified ones, which seems odd.

p.name is not a definition of .name only of how .name is applied to p tags.
