I have a file that cannot be sent to the Kindle via the "Send to Kindle" website.
I have The Complete Works of Carl Jung in EPUB format, but every time I try to send it to my Kindle via the Kindle app on my phone or via the "Send to Kindle Website", Amazon's internal conversion process takes almost an hour and ends up failing.
The reason I want to send this to my Kindle device this way is simply to keep it in the cloud. The EPUB is 49 MB. It can be opened without any problem on my computer and on the Kindle when I sideload it via USBC cable. I've tried making sure the HTML is UTF-8 encoded (I know this measure is useless); I also tried converting the file from MOBI to EPUB; also converting the file from EPUB to KPF and then back to EPUB (both with Kindle Previewer and the Calibre plugin), but the result is always the same. When I send it to the Kindle via Send to Kindle, it fails. When I run the "Quality Report" in the Kindle Previewer, I get a pop-up saying "13367 quality issues were found in this book", indicating that the file has the same number of non-indexed footnotes. However, the report says that this issues shouldn´t prevent the file from being used. Does anyone have an idea why this particular file can't be uploaded to the cloud? ![]() Last edited by FacetiousKnave; 12-10-2022 at 02:20 PM. |

Use Web interface (200 Mbyte per file), it's maybe too big for email.
But the Cloud is simply Amazon's server. Get two USB HDDs. One for at home and another to keep at friend/relative. The Cloud is not a backup. USB to Kindle (convert with Calibre) is far better. |

As I mentioned in the post, I tried to send the book through the "Send to Kindle" website. Not by email. That is where delivery fails. I have sent much larger files with no problem.
The reason I want that file on the Amazon server is that I have thousands of books organised in collections. If I buy a new Kindle, I could download all my books while keeping the structure. What I'm trying to understand is what could be causing that particular file to fail the upload process. |

How long does it take for Kindle Previewer to open the file in your experiment? While I don't know for sure, I think Amazon has some kind of conversion timeout so if it is long you may be running into that.

It takes a long, long time. I would say around 30/40 minutes. The book has more than a thousand pages and the table of content is huge.
Maybe you're right. It must be a conversion timeout, cause the file is not corrupted and I have sent much larger files in the past. EDIT: Curiously, I found a previous edition of the same book, and it worked fine. So there is definitely something in the file that is triggering the issue. I have had some success on difficult epubs using Calibre to conver the epub to docx and uploading the docx file to the Amazon cloud.
YMMV. |

Could you convert it to docx then reconvert the docx to epub? That might remove any problem artifacts in the original.

Amazon will let you upload the docx file directly. Amazon has pretty good conversion of docx to azw etc.
