Sideload books without registering?

A family member has purchased a Libra 2 as a gift and wants to sideload some books before gifting it.
He does not want to create an account with Kobo or use his own account as he will not be the actual owner.
Is there a way to do this?

None of the recipients of these Kobos use WiFi. They buy or download PD ebooks via PC and transfer via USB (optionally Calibre). They can use any online shop that way.
