calibre displays wrong info in library

Hi everyone!

Recently had to buy a new laptop, tried to import my ebooks from my tolino via calibre onto my computer but now the library part of calibre shows random info where the author name should be. (on the tolino part of calibre it shows up correctly)

I did have a special display/sorting on my ebook reader - fandom/author/title - because I mainly read fanfiction on it, but I really don't remember how I managed to do that.
now the library lists pairing or fandom info as author instead of the actual author. I hope i make sense ...

i have 1200 ebooks on it and I really don't wanna have to correct the info manually.

I did not change any settings after installing calibre and only pressed "add books to library"

Is the old computer or Hard disk) still available?

Copying the Settings (Calibre Configuration) folder AND the Library folder over (replace the ones a NEW install of Calibre) gives you almost 100% chance of an exact function.

At most, you need to change where additional libraries are to be found.

That is right! All you plugins, devices and their settings in one go.

unfortunately my old computer died and i couldnt save anything

but the problem seems to be bigger than that. I just downloaded an AO3 file and imported it straight from the download folder and also the data seems jumbled, i.e. the author is "unknown". (it is a file i have previoulsy dl and it worked fine for 5 years)

Does the file metadata actually contain the correct information? If so, have you set calibre to use the filename as the source for metadata? Check the adding books preference and see if Read metadata from file contents rather than file name is checked.

Do you have the old computer? Can you remove the hard drive and see if it still works?

My previous laptop died but the hard drive is perfectly OK. I have a cable that I can use to plug into the USB port (USB-A or USB-C) and it allows me to get any data off of the drive I want.
