How to edit books in Calibre with Sigil?
All these years I used Sigil to edit books (epub), but somehow now I only get the Calibre editor when I want to edit a book from within Calibre.
From the windows desktop itself I can of course edit it with Sigil, but it was always easier to start editing from Calibre. I cannot find anything in the Calibre preferences to change this... |

Or the Plugin by Kiwidude. It offers a list of Open with things that can be selected besides just the Editor

Crude perhaps, but I select the book in calibre and then hit the O key which opens its folder in calibre, then double-click on the book there and that opens sigil with it.

Ok, this "open with" works, but it is way more uncomfortable than the earlier behaviour where somehow Calbre's edit feature could bring me directly to Sigil.
Does anyone know what the latest version of Calibre is that supported "edit in Sigil"? |

Not sure "edit in Sigil" ever existed within Calibre itself - if it did would have been an 0.8n or earlier release.
Prior to the advent of Calibre's built in Open With I used the Open With plugin. I switched to the built in OW when it came along in 2017 in version 2.??. BR |

Well, there was no menu entry "edit in Sigil", but a double click on a file openend Sigil for me all these years. I know I had to set it up somewhere (a loooooooooooooong time ago), but it seems this setting is completely gone. And it was still there a few months ago...

Thanks, BetterRed, that did it! Step 1, Epub was checked.
Works now! |

And I think your solution is the one I used 10 years ago for the first time. I vaguely remember that there was no setting like "use sigil" but "use OS settings". But I also wonder when (and why) this "epub" setting came back. I have not changed any settings in calbre for years, but suddenly this here stopped working... Thanks.
I just noticed that the Preferences->Behaviour->Preferred input format order: list, and the Use internal viewer for: list, don't have any tool tips, the second is where I might have expected something like: "If a file type is unchecked the OS default program for that file type is used." Maybe the gremlins stole those too. BR |
