An Unlikely Messiah

The inspiration for this title was an exploration of whether or not there is some sort of ultra-simple concept, expressible as a single sentence consisting of only a few words, which had the power to provide an understanding of humanity's failures, both in the past and in the present.

I believe now that there is such a thing, and I chose Gary's story to subtly bring it to the reader. I say subtly because the story is not about the concept, but about Gary.

Gary is a young man of mixed ancestry, the son of a Yaqui father and an Irish mother, who's raised by them traveling the carnival circuit of the American Midwest. Gary's life might already a bit strange, but when as a young man he strikes out on his own, the course his life takes becomes rather twisted and bizarre and ultimately leads to his playing a part on the world's stage.

And people say that the part he played changed the world forever, and that when the world knew peace, it was owed to him, and that whatever goodness the world knows now is also owed to him. It might just be though, that Gary is given too much credit, and maybe, there was something else in play.

So, here is the true and unadulterated story of Gary's strange life, from beginning to end, and people may decide for themselves what he did, or didn't do, to bring change to the world.
