My E-reader gets crazy
Hi, I’m experiencing some problem with my Kobo Nia lately.
I will be reading and out of nowere my screen will get out of control, changing pages, going to the menu, selecting words, changing books, then finally the screen freeze and I have to turn it off and turn it on again so I can read for 2 minutes minutes before the problem start again. I did a reset, two times, but the problem is still there. What should I do? Thanks for your help |

That once happened on my Aura HD. There was a cat hair on the screen. Wiping the screen down fixed it.

After mounting your Kobo on your computer, make a backup of all of your sideloaded books, then try one of these solutions. 1) Go to Settings>Device Information and tap on “Repair”. This won’t likely fix the issues you’re dealing with, but it’s not destructive, so I’d try doing this first. 2) Log out of your Kobo account on your device. This will wipe the settings, but keep your sideloaded books (usually). Then, once the device has finished restarting, it will prompt for your login deets. Many times this fixes corrupt databases. 3) Go to Settings>Device Information and tap on “Factory reset”. This soft reset cleans out your Kobo but keeps the currently installed firmware. When prompted, login with your Kobo deets. There is a hard factory reset option as well which restores your Kobo to the moment you first pulled it out of the box, but let’s see if one of these other three fixes things for you. |

Before doing anything else, put your Nia to sleep. Then wipe the screen with a clean microfiber cloth. You may need a little bit of water if it's particularly dirty. Then see how it's working.

I assumed it wasn’t a cleaning issue because the screen freezes after usage. But I hope for their sake it’s as simple a fix as this. We won’t know until they get back to us. Would funk on the screen cause the Kobo to freeze, though? I suppose anything is possible. Electronics constantly surprise me with how finicky and fragile they are. |

Makes sense. Either way cleaning the screen is far easier and less invasive than a reset and personally I prefer to start from the least frustrating fix and move up. Though Windows has seen me buy a new computer when the one I had literally forgot it had Bluetooth capabilities on more than one occasion requiring a wipe of the system to restore. The new one hasn’t demonstrated the same issue, and while I had to set it up I’d have had to do that again anyway.

The hard drive in the previous laptop still work and I have a cable that lets me plug it into a USB port (USB-A or USB-C). This way I can pull off anything I want. |

Some Kobos have an infra-red touch screen. Does your lamp use any infra-red lights?

https://www.sunbox.com/shop/10000-lu...sunlight-jr-2/ I just use one of my other devices if I want to read near the lamp. Figured I'd mention it in case OP might have a similar light. Though probably OP would have noticed and mentioned if it happened only in one place. Last edited by 4691mls; 10-14-2022 at 02:56 PM. |

I experienced a similar problem in those last days, with my Libra 2 and even with a new Pocketbook Touch Hd 3. The culprit were an ebook. The very strange thing is that on my Pocketbook Basic Lux 3, that hasn't touch screen, this ebook works perfectly.
I were going to open a thread for this strange issue. In the meanwhile I've returned to Amazon my new Touch hd 3. After that, I took another epub version of the same ebook, and now the Libra 2 can read it without issues. Is there a way to check if an epub has some problem? A sort of debug.
