Start into a particular author list

I am sure this has been asked before but a forum and google search hasn't found any threads for me.

How can I get Calibre to start into a book list of a particular author or series instead of listing my entire library?

I tend to read by author or by series, and it would be nice to adjust the startup list to only display that author or series.

Is there some sort of Autoexec startup that I can create?
Maybe something similar to this... Autoexec Service

You can create a virtual library and set Preferences > Behaviour it to switch to that.

Personally, what I would do is use the Reading List plugin to add the current books to a list that uses the 'store in series column' of a custom column. Then base the VL on that column.

This would mean that instead of changing the VL search every time you switch, you just add and remove books from the reading list as needed.

I just tried and this can be done using the View Manager plugin. The plugin has an option to start Calibre applying a saved search. You could make the author/series you're currently reading a saved search and then specify this in the View Manager options.

Thank you @Sirtel, that worked.

In case anybody else wants this...
  1. Filter your library to the list you need
  2. Click "Saved Search" and selectd "Add saved search". It now appears in "Saved searches" in the left tab browser
  3. Install the View Manager plugin
  4. In the View Manager plugin, select "Customize View Manager"
  5. Create a new "View to customize" by pressing the green + button at the top
  6. Enable "Apply saved search" and select the Saved Search you created earlier
  7. Enable "Automatically apply view" and select the view you created earlier.
  8. Press OK and restart to check it works.

To change to a new startup list, change the saved search under "Apply saved search"

For my Books library I use that setting to force a switch a Virtual Library called Current, which has a search expression of #admin_tags:"=_current".
