calibre to kindle nonsense titles

I successfully emailed calibre content to my kindle via the usual amazon link on 5 September. When I tried two new books on 25 September, they went as usual but showed up as a string of nonsense in place of the title, and author was listed as unknown. Tried it today, same result. The verification email from Amazon was:
We received a request to send the following document to your Kindle account:
* iBhvxLSbe93yoDeJ5dm4l3.epub
How can this be avoided, and the kindle information changed? The books are in the library and readable, but obviously it makes a nonsense of the Kindle library.

Calibre does better mobi, dual mobi, azw3/KF8 and KFX from epub often than Amazon does, even though the preferred upload for publishing is epub.

Thanks, Quoth, but I use a Kindle app on my iPad. I don't know of another way to get content from Calibre to the iPad except with the "send to Kindle" function. If there is one, please enlighten me, but keep it simple please. I'm an old, nontechnical, fart. Another thread on this or a similar topic contains "wait for the next Calibre update. Would this be correct?

If your computer runs Windows or MacOS, then you can use File Sharing to drag and drop files right into the Kindle app on your iPad. No need to go through Amazon at all. I do it this way because there are no file size limits and some of my cookbooks that have a lot of photos are too big for Send to Kindle.

To find the file you want to transfer, just use the link in Calibre's book details pane to open the path to that book's folder. If you need to move a lot of files at once, it's easier to use Calibre's "Save to disk in a single folder" to get them all in one place first.

I presume there is a decent ePub app for iOS that respects CSS, then eBooks can be downloaded from Amazon to PC, and imported to Calibre that has a suitable plug-in, then converted to ePub?

I read that even direct from Amazon to iOS app that only mobi/KF7 is supported and not the almost like epub KF8/azw3.

I use AZW3 files for all my devices including the iPad.

My process is:
- acquire a book from Google Play or some store other than Amazon.
- add book to Calibre with the ACSM and DeDRM plugins installed, which gives me a clean epub file
- fix up the metadata, making sure to set an ASIN identifier to match the Kindle version of the book
- convert to AZW3 in Calibre
- use the Quality Check plugin in Calibre to "Fix ASIN for Kindle Fire"
- add the book to whichever device I want to use it on.
--- For cookbooks and travel guides, I use Apple File Sharing to put it on the iPad.
--- For fiction I use Calibre's "send to device" feature to put it on my Kindle Paperwhite.
--- For reference, research, or other books with a lot of maps or charts, I just double click the AZW3 file so it opens in the Kindle for PC app.

This works well for me because I don't care about synchronizing between multiple devices. I like having all my files recognized as books instead of docs. They can mingle with the ones that I buy from Amazon and look the same. They have cover images and page numbers and goodreads integration, and if they're bigger than 50M, that's o.k. too.

About 20 of my ebooks are not even published. I convert everything to epub. Everyone, including Amazon, uses ePub for publish upload of real ebooks.
The azw3/KF8 is proprietary Amazon only. The epub is documented standard used by almost all, including Amazon for upload to publish. Only Kindle or Kindle apps truly support azw3/kF8. All other eink use epub. All non-Amazon ereader apps use variations of epub or epub directly.
Lithum, Pocketbook and dozens more are better ereader apps than K4PC or Kindle Apps and use epub.

OK, well, I guess you should keep using epubs then since that's working for you. I read published books that all have asins, so azw3 is working for me.

Hopefully the OP got the info he needed about how to get books into his iOS Kindle app.
