Sync Failed. Please try again
I've been getting this error message lately when trying to sync my Kobo.
Last successful update was September 5 and never had this issue before. I know this is a rather "veteran" device but it works really well otherwise and it's my preferred reading Kobo (I have two other newer models). Any clue about the cause of the error? Many thanks! |

I have been getting this as well.
I have only noticed it since upgrading to 4.33-19759, I usual only sync after an upgrade though so it is possible it was happening before this though. I know it isn't a WiFi network issue as I can open the experimental browser and browse websites so the network connection is working fine. It isn't a big deal as I sideload all of my books but it would be nice to fix. Any thoughts? |

I haven't managed to sync mine since August 2020. It does software upgrades ok, but syncs never work. I left one running for 48 hours once.

I should have added it is happening on all 4 of my devices, so I guess that does imply it is something to do with my Kobo account then.

No issue syncing on my Sage or Libra 2 save that my libra 2 needs to charge more to update.
My Sage is on 4.33 Libra 2 is on 4.32. I’d test my H2O and Forma but I’d have to charge them which means finding a micro usb cable (I know I have one just not where it is) and the fact that two other devices sync without failing leads me to suspect they’d sync as well. |

So there was a problem with my Kobo account. I couldn't log in on the Kobo website, maybe they had deactivated my account for inactivity.
I had to reset the password which I then reseted again back to the original password. That didn't fix the Sage though, I had to sign out on the Sage (which I forgot would reset the device which is extremely annoying) and sign back in again, and then have to set up again. Grumble, grumble, grumble. Very frustrating. So now my Sage is working and syncing again now and I am just fixing my older Forma now. I don't think I will bother fixing my very old AuraHD or Glo, this will probably be the impetus to throw both of them out. Does anyone know of a way of changing or reseting the password on a device without having to sign out of the device? Last edited by glenk; 09-17-2022 at 10:08 PM. |

My account - about 8 years old - was apparently deleted from kobo.com and had to create a new one with the same email address but different password (the old one was "too weak").
So I signed out from my 3 Kobo devices. When you sign out from your device, it gets reinitialized but luckily, the books are not removed and are automatically reimported in the database. I had fortunately copied the Kobo eReader.conf file so I could more or less set up the devices as they were before. Reading progress I had to update with the Kobo Touch Extended Driver. Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to restore Annotations. No big issue anyway. Sync is now working again. Last edited by paulfiera; 09-18-2022 at 07:28 AM. |

I haven't tried to sync for a while, but it's timing out for me today when I try. Can log into my account fine.

I have this problem every few months, from conversations some time ago, it seems a recurring problem for people with a significant amount of books bought in their Kobo account. I have 285 as of now, not a big number compared to the real number of books I own, but probably much higher than the average Kobo account. I keep almost all of my books downloaded and I have a big amount of books sideloaded also. I have 45 collections to organize those books, in case the number of collections is a problem too.
When I have contacted Kobo support chat in the past I was told to repair my account (an option available in the settings configuration of the e-readers, it's not available in Kobo web), and when the account repair gets stuck trying to sync again, I was told to sign out of my e-reader and sign in again, then perform the account repair again. That seems to work as others have said (signing out and in), I don't know if the account repair really does something. Afterwards, the sync works for some months until it begins having problems again 😔. Fortunately I have now some practice recovering my books stats after signing out because with the amount of books I keep in my e-reader it would be a pain, thanks to the much missed @davidfor that only takes a few hours, anyway, I really need to set up a new account without books to register my e-reader, because this is getting old and the advantage of being able to buy and download the next book in a series without waiting to process it in Calibre isn't so necessary as not needing to reset my e-reader every few months. |

I'm not certain the sync issue is related to the number of books in your Kobo account. I have approximately 1900 books in my Kobo account and my Sage and Clara HD do not seem to be having any issues with syncing.
The only collection I have is Finished. Most of the need I had years back for collections is now taken care of by being able to search on title, author and series. |
