Question After update problem with search and swap authors FN LN

Not sure where to put it or what the problem is caused of but since the only change I made was the upgrade to 6.3 I guess it must be due to this.

Genereal iinfo: Windows 10, Calibre 6.3

I often use Calibre to bulk add books,
search for authors:"," to see LN FN authors (e.g. Smith, Tom)
and had an option in the context menu called "fix" (can't remember where it is in the main menue options, I set the prefences a long time ago)
> swaps LN FN to FN LN (Tom Smith) in all marked entries

Now this entry is no longer in the context menue and I can't find it anywhere (changes are possible for single books using edit metadata).

Also the search does no longer list authors with a "," or ";".
At all.

There is no error it just shows the full list although there ARE authors with comma, LN FN.

Example:
search: date:today and authors:","
result:all books added today regardless if the authors column includes a name with , or not

Can someone pls. point me to the needed steps/submenues etc.?

If the reason is the upgrade why do you (the develeopers) change well working functions, remove or hide them somewhere?

You need to keep the plugins updated as well.
Calibre 6 change the underlaying code libraries and PI devs made updates to common ones.
Quality Check PI works fine if current (I use that feature all the time)

Yes, I totally forgot about plugins.

Ok, updated and configured and it seems to work but it still does not come up with the needed search results.

Test run with about 6 entries, two were authors with comma.
Search does find and highlight the first hit but it should show a list of the two hits and nothing else.
If I have plenty of books a single line won't help.

I assume there is a setting in one of the zillion menues and subs?

A search for authors:"," in the whole library also does not show any results although there are entries starting with , (e.g. ,Dr. Seuss). I can live with that though because I assume that a comma at the beginning of an entry causes problems.

Thanks again.

See the calibre documentation for The search interface, in particular ‘Character variant’ searches.

I am having difficulty with the search function also. Before the latest update, I was able to search for a book and have only the books that fit that criteria show in the results. Now, the search results will highlight the books, but all the other books are still showing. This means I still have to scroll to find the book I am looking for. Help?

To the right of the Search bar is an icon labelled "Filter" (its a blue /white stripe icon for me). Click on that and it will change the view to only show Highlighted books and change the label to say Highlight.

You have to set that in Preferences-->Searching-->General tab, the third checkbox from the top.

The second checkbox, "Highlight search results instead of restricting the book list to the results" will flip the behaviour.

Activated it in preferences, set to show only matching books but it is still wrong.
Still the whole list of books, just the matching results are no longer even highlighted.

"highlight search results instead of restricting the book list to the results" is
unchecked

search for
date:today and authors:","

result list of every book from today but no matter if authros contained comma or not

which means the "and" part is ignored.

So there is still something not working right with the search. Sorry.

The expression 'authors:","' will match every book in your library. The calibre manual The search interface has a specific example showing that the expression is a "contains" search that matches all books. Use a ‘Character variant’ search instead.

Well, got it now.

Preferences > Searches > General
uncheck "unaccented characterrs .. punctuation is ignored"

Now it works as before.
Would be probably nice to have both options untwined but at least it works again.

I write down such clues but will have to remember the cheat sheet and find it then.

Anyway, thanks all.
