Names with initials are messed up, any fix?
So I've been trying to get my metadata sorted for several thousand books, and it was in a pretty bad state initially. But I think I've made it worse myself, since I'm still getting used to Calibre.
I think I probably clicked "copy sort values" a few times in Manage Authors, or run the JS+ and Quality Sort plugins, and I've ended up with a mixture of messed up author names for those that have initials. Names like Clarke Arthur C. and Woodiwiss Kathleen E. (before Author Sort), when they should obviously be Author C. Clark, Kathleen E.Woodiwiss. But the other names that don't contain initials are fine. Calibre then reads these initials (such as E.) as LN, so it puts Woodiwiss under E instead of W. I'm wondering if there's any quick way to sort this, instead of going through all of my 1,308 authors? I've looked through Tweaks, and the JS+ and Quality Check plugins, but can't find anything specific that works. For example, are there any fixes that will scan author names and take letters before a period (.) and put them before the LN? |

Your examples are missing a comma, no wonder the sort gets messed up.
Ln,Fn Mi GiGo You might try working directly in the Manage Authors tool (right click an Author name IN THE TAG BROWSER. It will be tedious. |

Yea, I was a bit fast and loose when organising authors, and I think I removed commas and switched back and forth a few times between author and author_sort before I finally understood what it actually did!
But I think I've finally found a solution. All my messed-up authors with initials at the end also have a period at the end, so I searched for this with Regex using \.$ which shows all of these messed up initials, and then I just grab "author only" metadata for these books for less risk of messing up the rest of the metaadata.. It's a bit of a hack but it seems to have worked on the first few that I tried, so I think I'll just go fast and loose again on the rest of these messed up ones and then apply the downloaded author metadata without checking each one individually, since there are about 500 of them! Fingers crossed.. |
