Eslate or lcd writing tablet to gift to small children.
Hi I am Rupesh from India and I want to gift a small slate to small children in my house.
I found that there is an eslate or lcd writing tablet in market. Some of them are https://www.flipkart.com/olipiz-ente...=1658640131812 https://www.amazon.in/PREKRASNA-Port...dexMainSlot=29 The above costs very less ie., 150/- Indian rupees. May I know whether the above has any battery inbuilt. Please suggest whether I can buy them or not and try to suggest if you know others. Regards, Rupesh. Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk |

These are just electronic versions of a chalkboard or wax tablet.
They are very cheap from China because there is no storage or transfer. Literally you only sketch on it and the button erases it. It does need a battery to work, usually a CR2032 lithium coin cell. I had one for a while and gave it away, so no idea how long the battery lasts. It's an electronic novelty toy. Useful for a deaf person to carry, or travellers in China where people might share the written language but no spoken language. Otherwise a chalk board is more durable and environmentally friendly. In the 1960s there were cardboard tablets with black wax and a plastic sheet. You wrote/sketched with a stylus and erased by pulling down a card strip under the plastic to erase it. Some toy shops still sell them. These are just a more expensive electronic version. Not worth it. Last edited by Quoth; 07-24-2022 at 06:00 AM. |

Hi I have searched google and found that cr2032 coin cell lasts for 10 years. Is it true.
I am going to gift this e slate to small kid she may feel that it's a real smartphone or tablet. Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk |

I agree with Quoth.
Small children also LIKE to get messy when creating art, and parents want to have something to display. Neither can be achieved with these slates. You don't mention the age of the child. If she's very young, buy some non toxic finger paints and LOTS of paper, maybe construction paper. If she's over 5 years, maybe buy her some poster paints (non toxic) brushes and lots of paper. If she develops artistically, she'll soon be asking for materials which she wants, such as pastels (soft or oil) or watercolour, or maybe even acrylics. Let her find her own way later to digital art. Just my thoughts. But you can't keep a picture created on an eslate, nor have so much fun making it. |

No, the SHELF life, when it's in the pack, is 10 years. Actually that toy uses a thinner CR2025.
Also the coin cells are dangerous if swallowed. That's why some of these toys have a screw on the battery cover, but a 2 year old can use a screwdriver. I don't believe it's safe for small children. Risk of cracking panel and the liquid coming out. You can buy toy smartphones for small children. These LCD slates are for bigger children or adults. It's totally lacking iin function, as you can only scribble or erase all of it. No selective erase. A box of coloured chalks and a blackboard that size is better value and more fun. |

Hi I have seen the pictures of these and I think that it doesn't display all colours as monitors, TVs and smartphones and tablets does.
First I thought these can be used in place of smartphone or tablet but it's not true. Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk |

I've had 6 kids and 11 grandchildren. It's not a sensible toy. OTOH my nearly 10 year old has a Kobo Sage with over 1000 PD ebooks. She also writes and illustrates her own stories and always exports to additionally save it. When she was younger she got paper and notebooks. She still paints, so still uses paper. |

Thanks for your suggestions and I ask people like you before buying anything and some of you give useful suggestions.
Previously I have created a thread titled "best tab to read ebooks and rarely watch YouTube videos at lowest price". Unfortunately no one you suggested. Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk |

It's just a dumb electronic version of a wax slate, either black or white scribbles depending on model.

For that age I'd get something like a magnetic drawing board. There are many but this is an example

For youtube videos? Not really.
For a device nice for both reading ebooks (and manga, but not full size comics) and Youtube, I'd personally go for an old secondhand iPad mini (but not old enough to be pre Retina display). But the OP posted that thread in the (rather quiet) Android Devices forum so possibly doesn't want that advice. |

You'd get a decent HD res 10" Android new about the price of a S/H iPad Mini (About €220 here, or maybe $200 USA). Also unlike Android, too old Apple stuff can't have apps installed.
Also Apple iOS is appalling for ability to simply copy stuff on/off via USB with zero ability to install other than via Apple. |
