Ink Pad 3 Pro

I bought this about a year ago when I saw a big sale at Newegg. Fiddled with it awhile and then stuck it in a drawer. I mostly use a Kobo Libra but wanted something a little larger and not the square footprint.

Anyway, pulled it out recently (still fully charged!) and tried to use it. It connected to wifi and updated firmware, shows all my books but when I try to open a book the hourglass spins about 10 sec and then goes back to nothing. Have tried with multiple books, even connected to my laptop and loaded more books, all are epubs, through Calibre.

Why aren't my books opening?

No one has any ideas or suggestions? I've rebooted it with no change. Have no idea how to do a full factory reset.

Update - found that at least some of the books (not all) will open by a long press rather than just tapping them (I'm used to the Kobo which only requires a tap to open). The long press brings up a menu, including "Open with.... and the options are KOReader, epub2 and epub3.

If I choose KOReader, nothing happens but the books will open with either epub2 or 3 - what is the difference in those?
I must have installed KOReader back when I first got the inkpad but I don't see any evidence of it other than in this menu, which doesn't seem to work anyway.

Seems like KOReader is having an issue.

I just installed it a couple of days ago, but I think if you last used KOReader to open a book, then KOReader becomes the default reading app for that book for single tap. If you never opened it with KOReader, then it'll use the default of PB Reader app. Long press lets you change this default. This would explain why single tap behavior varies from book to book.

You can launch KOReader from Apps screen by tapping on @koreader. Assuming that launches KOReader, you can then tap on settings ('gear' icon) and if you see Updates tap on that and you can Check for updates to see if that fixes its issue. Or it may be that this Updates feature has been added since you installed it, in which case you'd need to get the latest from GitHub.

I don't know what the difference is between ePub 2 and ePub 3 mode. I assume it uses ePub 3 by default, and ePub 2 is a fallback.

I'm still on the fence about KOReader. It's a little too bare metal for my tastes, and I'm having a few issues with it. PB reader is fine for the most part, and I like having TTS.

Now I understand why the books weren't opening at least - the default going to KOReader BUT KOReader is no longer installed - it doesn't show up in the app folder. I think I remember also not really liking it and must have uninstalled but some things are left in the registry. I think I really need to reformat the whole thing back to factory settings and start over, but I can't find anything in the manual.

edited - just googled how to reset it and duh, found my OWN post last year on here asking the same question. And that's why I threw it in a drawer b/c I was frustrated with it. But found how to factory reset so off I go to try that now

You could just connect your device via USB and delete the /system/config/extensions.cfg file if you don't have any other third-party apps installed that are using it. It was probably installed by koreader, but left behind when you deleted the latter. That is the file that defines koreader as the default application for opening files with certain suffixes.

Thanks. I already did the full factory reset and it went fine and my books are still there, as I did not reformat afterward. So far so good. Now, to do some reading on this and compare it to my Libra. I like the bigger screen so as long as it works well overall it may become my go-to. I never gave it a fair chance last year since I installed the KOReader immediately.
