Add books to kids profile?
Hi
First time posting so sorry if this is in the wrong place. I've handed down my old kindle to my eldest child (11). I've set up a kids profile and wanted to upload some books to it but I'm hitting a brick wall. I can transfer books onto the device easily enough using Calibre, but they won't show up on the kids profile, just the main one. I don't want him to be able to see my main library, there's books that are far too mature for him, but when I go onto the kids profile I can't see the books I have manually transferred onto the device. I can see a section where I can manually transfer books over from the main library to the kids ones, but these are just showing the books I've purchased through the Kindle store, not the ones I've manually uploaded to the device using Calibre. Is there a way around this? Is there a way of forcing the books on to the kids section? Thanks |

Just remove the Wifi password.
Do not have a kids profile. It cripples it and only works with Amazon bought books, yet my grandchildren have about 1000 to 2000 public domain ebooks, plus a few dozen bought from online other than Amazon. We bought two of our kids a Kindle PW3, one grandchild a PW3, but 3 others now have Kobos (Original H2O, Nia and Sage). Youngest ereader user has a dedicated colour LCD Binatone ereader. She'll get a Kobo in a couple of years. The Amazon Kids Fire, Kids Kindle and Kid's profile are all marketing gimmicks locked to Amazon content. Avoid them. |

Thanks for the tip! I will look into that. Having said that after handing it to my child with hardly any stuff on it, he discovered there is actually a load of free content we get bundled with Prime he can access, and he's happy browsing through that for now. If he ever does run out of things I'll try the wifi password tip.
Thanks! |

Prime content isn't free, it's paid for (sometimes poor payment to publisher/author) by your subscription.
Check out 1000s of real versions of all the classic stories rather than sterilised saccharine Disney ones in the supermarket. www.gutenberg.org Really free because copyright has expired. Many of us originally bought eink ereaders purely to more easily read content from Gutenberg. Calibre is also ideal to fix any silliness in the ebooks. I convert them with automatic removal of paragraph spacing (put 1.4 em indent), "beautify quotes" to “Proper Quotes” and I also put line-height in "remove styles" which is good for bought books. I download all Amazon books "for transfer via USB". Content and Devices. I never turn on WiFi on Kindles or Kobo and none of my Grandchildren have their local WiFi passwords. All sideload. |

Kids profile works as designed, i.e. only with Amazon content. You cannot side load or send personal documents and have them show up for the given kid. And you can see what they have downloaded if that is of interest.
You can also manage the whole affair yourself as @Quoth recommends but it is not rocket science to side load whatever from whomever so it's not as 'secure', and the only oversight is to inspect their device from time to time. |

Yes.

Library and bookshop policies vary by country, but as a kid my parents never checked up what I was reading and the difference between Adult & Child at the library was only the number of books that could be simultaneously borrowed. |
