CZR -> ePub

I imported a .zip containing some PNG images. calibre creates a CBZ file from this. So far so good, CBZ looks good in a viewer app.

However, converting this to ePub makes a mess of things: all the images are now B&W, and there many that are clipped and or have aspect ratio mucked with. Output profile is set to 'iPad 3'.

Is there some way to make this work better?

I assume you mean CBZ (Comic Book Zip).

Best way to make it work better is to not convert and use a CBZ Viewer.

To do that, install a CBZ viewer and make sure its the default handler for CBZ files, to get Calibre to use that viewer make sure that that CBZ is unchecked in the Preferences->Behaviour->Use internal viewer for: list.

I use a no-frills viewer called HoneyView.

Yes, CBZ.

I guess I need to look into converting a set of images directly to ePub. I don't want viewing to be restricted to using a CBZ viewer.

I still don't understand why color isn't preserved with the existing calibre conversion.

Check the profile (select Tablet)
Check the number of colors setting Preferences:input options :comic

Ok, I can try that.

Turns out Kindle Comic Creator (with the right options) does a pretty good job with this task.

Another option is to look into Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), much better at conversion on image archives.
