Factory Reset Oasis

I could get all "let me count the ways"I loath the new way Amazon has destroyed my beautifully created library. All my books are in collections by the author, and all my books are listed as text rather than horrible covers. I sideload everything to uniform the display for my vision issues.

ie
DCI Logan 01 A Litter of Bones
DCI Logan 02 Thicker Than Water
etc.

I really hope this is not the dumbest question ever asked. But if I placed my Oasis in airplane mode and did a factory reset would it give me back the old OS? I am asking as reloading 500 plus books and putting them back in collections is a huge job. One I would hate to do unless it gave me back the old OS.

I would permanently keep it in airplane mode.

If you are still on firmware 5.14.2, then factory reset would put you on the old UI as long as you don't sign into your Amazon account (since the new UI need to be remotely activated on this firmware).

If you are on firmware 5.14.3, then, no the new UI is enabled by default even if you don't sign into your account.

Factory reset cannot downgrade the OS.

A factory reset does not revert firmware versions on Kindle, and unless the Kindle is jailbroken, you cannot revert the UI changes or firmware version...

As for the UI, if you have the new UI, go to the library tab, tap the three line icon that is under the three dot icon in the top right, and then you can change how titles are sorted and displayed.

Edit: Forgot to say, but there is no way to disable showing covers, but what is so horrible about them?

The worst thing about the new UI in my opinion is that even if you put a book into a collection, it still shows in the list. When I finish a book, I put it into a collection for the current year, and that used to cause it to be removed from the list. Now, however, that doesn't happen. I could, in theory, only show unread books in my list, and that would help...until I want to re-read a book.

I also don't really like not being able to turn off the covers. To me, they're useless when looking at the list view, because the images are too small. I never use grid view, because it's easier for me to read the title and author that way. I'm the person that always removed the dust covers from hardcover books because they got in the way, and I never really cared about the picture on the outside--the story on the inside is what matters to me. Besides, I'd rather create my own picture of what the story is about than look at someone else's interpretation.

Even for the original cover of Pratchett's Night Watch? (It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that it was an homage to van Rijn's painting of the same name... and no subsequent edition has had that cover, which is just a *crime*.)

Honestly, I couldn't tell you anything about 95% of the covers of books I've read over the years...I just don't notice them. For the ones that I do remember things about the covers, it's always for books that I've read and re-read many times. Even then, I don't necessarily associate the book cover with a specific book, but it will look familiar enough to me to remind me that I read it, or maybe that it is part of a series I read. The Three Investigators books are an example of this, and the old Nancy Drew books, as well, along with a few old science fiction books that I've read and re-read over the years. I can't tell you exactly what book, but I can maybe tell you the author, or series, or both.

When you have vision problems, covers can be very difficult to read. Add to that I tend to binge a series, most covers never list the number in the series.

It really makes my life difficult. I pretty much have to remove my entire library and only load what I plan to read or it simply gets far too difficult.

They're also always in monochrome, and thus a dingy mess in ways the publishers almost never intended. Kindles should be de-emphasising covers, not emphasising them.

I agree, for the e-ink Kindles. For the apps and the Fires, covers are fine. Even for the e-ink, they're fine...as long as I can choose not to show them. I'd like to be able to choose not to show them in the apps, too, actually
