Just ordered an Oasis. I'm excited.

I just ordered the Oasis bundle with the waterproof fabric cover for $194. I was hoping it would go on sale for Prime. Hopefully, it doesn't go any lower. My Nook is acting a little flaky (random reboots) and I really don't care for my Paperwhite 4. New toys are always fun.

I don't think I would like Kindle because of software things. But I looked at an Oasis this weekend at Best Buy. It really is a nice bit of hardware. And I also like the waterproof fabric cover.

I love mine! I also have it with a waterproof fabric case (in blue) and it looks very very good. I do hope they release the next generation soon though, although I might hang on to my current one a bit longer as it’s the cellular version…

Once you've got and used it for a couple of weeks, would you mind writing up your thoughts on it? I've got a first generation oasis and while it is still going strong, I can tell the battery is starting to weaken and I need to start preparing myself to buy another reader. If it's too much trouble, no worries

It hasn't been a couple of weeks yet, but I can already tell you I am glad I bought it. The screen is beautiful. The text is more crisp than my PW4 even though they have the same screen. It must be because there are more LEDs. The lighting is very even. The warm light does not get as orange as the Nook, but it is good enough.

I would not like to use it without a case. The metal case is not really comfortable. The ledge on the back doesn't seem to be in the right place for a comfortable hold. However, I put it in the waterproof fabric case and it is very comfortable. The front cover folds to the back and covers the ledge. With the weight concentrated on the side with the buttons it is very nice to hold. The buttons are good. They do make an audible click. I would prefer the haptic sensors that the Voyage had, but the buttons on the Oasis work fine.

I do change hands frequently when I read, so I was worried that I would not like having to rotate the reader to change hands. That doesn't seem to be a problem. The screen rotates instantly.

I haven't had it long enough yet to need to charge it, so I can't speak to battery life. I am very happy I bought it. I would recommend it at the Prime Day price.

This is where skins are useful. I had exactly the same complaint as you, and added this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WGQPCW3. It adds 3g to the weight of the device, leaves its shape unchanged, and completely stops it getting cold.

The ledge on the back, well, it depends how big your hands are. I often find myself holding it by one corner...
