Series info not showing in reader app
For some books, the series info is not saved in the book, so it doesn't show up in my reader app.
Only after an ePub to ePub conversion are they visible on my device. Unfortunately, as a noob, I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I've noticed that when embedding the metadata, the series info only appears in the content.opf after the conversion. Could someone please help me and please let me know if I should provide some more info? Device: iPad, iPhone App: Marvin3, MapleRead |

Series is not an official metadata
![]() ![]() ![]() Some device plugins will support (eg Kobo extended) series if configures. Some (eg Kindle) can be tricked by using the Metadata Plugboard to cram info into know fields on transfer (does not affect the Library copy) |

It's why even on the Marvellous Kobo you have to connect twice:
First to send the book. Second to update the Series data in the Kobo Database as it won't get it from the book. Thus if you reset or logout/login on the Kobo, the books are all re-imported but the series names/data is lost. You need to either restore an up to date backup copy of the database (which will restore reading status etc too) or have Calibre update the series data. This can be done via Kobo Utilities after selecting all books with series info and Update Metadata. I only use the Kindle for Tests now as the later ones only work sensibly for Collections and Series if it's an Amazon title with series info in Amazon library and Collection is synced/done on device. My ancient Kindle DXG old Sony work better for Collections than any more recent Kindle. 99.5% of my books are PD, so the series data is usually created by me on Calibre. Other then the K1, Sony has worked better for collections then Kindles. Kobo works the best with Calibre.

Just to make it clear again, in case someone should have overread it at my start post.
I have the metadata embedded of course, but still for some books - some, not all - the series info doesn't appear in my reader. In this case only an epub to epub conversion helped and only in this case the series info is also in content.opf I wonder why? edit: It looks like the problem books are epub3 books. How do i identify epub3 books in the overview? edit2: found it https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ighlight=epub3 Last edited by Wiggo; 06-12-2022 at 06:24 AM. |

I had the same problem a few years ago. After reading about it on this forum, using the "save template" when sending books to my device from the computer, did the trick for me.
Connect your ebook reader to your computer. In Calibre, Wait till the "device" icon appears on the main bar. Click on the small triangle to the right of the icon and a menu appears: click on "configure this device". You can enter a template as follows: {author_sort}/{title}--{series_index}-{series} Click "ok" Now you can send ebooks to your device and the template does the following: the series name and number will be incorporated into the filename on the ebook reader. Now, when I open my ebook reader, I can see the series name and number in the filename of each ebook. It also allows me to search for it on my ebook reader (pocketbook touch HD). It is not a perfect solution, but good enough for me. I hope this helps. Capricorn Last edited by Capricorn; 06-12-2022 at 07:28 AM. |
