Issues with the first name "Ed"
Hi,
When Saving to disk or to my device (Kobo Libra 2), I use author_sort as part of the written filename. Specifically in my template, I include {author_sort:subitems(0,1)}. I use subitems to limit the filename to a single author when multiple author names are present. This has been working great... until I came to author "Ed Greenwood." Everywhere I look in Calibre, his name appears as expected: Author: Ed Greenwood Author sort: Greenwood, Ed However, when Saved to disk, the author's name appears as: Ed, Greenwood All other names, including those where there are multiple authors, appear correctly as LastName, FirstName. Ed is the only author appearing this way. Is this correctible on my part? My only guess is that it may be confusing the name "Ed" as an abbreviation for "Editor," but my many searches online have come up empty. Thanks! |

I am 99.9% certain that you shouldn't be using subitems. That function is intended to break apart comma-separated items that contain periods, such as genres. It sorts the list, which is why 'Ed' is showing up before 'Greenwood'. I have no idea why it seems to usually work for you unless most of your author's first names are alphabetically later than their last names.
You should instead be using sublist() to get the first author. The separator for authors and author_sort is '&'. I think this is what you want: Code:
{author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)} Last edited by chaley; 06-05-2022 at 01:04 PM. |
