Calibre/Computer/Kindle not communicating
Calibre: Version 5.43 downloaded yesterday
Kindle: 7th generation Computer: Windows 10 I have been using Calibre with this kindle and computer for several years. When I plugged the Kindle in yesterday, the "send to device" button didn't appear. I upgraded the Calibre software (from 5.41). I've tried all the USB ports with no success. The computer is kept updated constantly and isn't giving any problems. Calibre looks as it always does, except for that one button. The kindle, while older (2014, I think) is still working perfectly in everyday use, and I last used this combination of devices about a month ago with no issues. Does anyone have any idea if this is fixable? |

Is this an e-ink Kindle or a Kindle Fire (ie tablet) device?
Does Windows itself see the device (until it's detected by Windows, calibre cannot see it)? Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

It's an e-ink Kindle.
The computer doesn't see it as a drive, but I'm sure it never has. |

Does WINDOWS (explorer) see the Kindle???
Calibre uses Windows USB services. If Windows DOES see it: Check Preferences: Ignored Devices (does not show if there are none) |

If Windows doesn't see it, calibre can't see it.

So how do I get Windows to see it? It's not showing up in File Explorer and, as far as I know, it never has.

You never said WHICH MODEL, only Gen 7 Android you use the cable (if you want to transfer files). based (Fire) need you to enable the USB port on the device EACH TIME. I really think you have a Kindle issue here. I can move this thread to the Kindle section of MR. Just ask |

Yes, please, if you think it will be helped better there.
I have tried it in all my USB ports, both directly into the computer and using the hub I have. They are working for other things, but the Kindle doesn't show up. I thought Gen 7 was the model. How do I find out more detail? It could well be a Kindle issue - it's old, after all. If it needs replacing I can do that, it doesn't owe me anything, but it is working fine for other things. I have been using Kindles since they were new, and this is the first time I've had any sort of issue (except for dropping my first one and breaking it). I don't know what I don't know. |

From this site: https://www.howtogeek.com/733834/how...odel-you-have/
it appears that it is a Kindle Basic (7th Generation). So nothing fancy. |

If it isnt showing up in windows explorer its not useable. You can try resetting it or get a replacement.
