Hello!
![]() In Documents folder, inside my Kindle Paperwhite, there's a folder named "My Clippings.sdr". Inside of it there are two files: 1 - Myclippings298(...).mbp1 2 - Myclippings298(...).mbs At least what I know is that it seems to be some kind of metadata files of MOBI e-books, but the sideloaded e-books that I have I manage them through Calibre, and they're all AZW3. I even used .MOBI before, but not anymore. When Calibre creates a folder of a new e-book, inside of its folder the metadata files appear there with three formats: .apnx, .azw3f and . azw3r, and I'm only using AZW3 files for now. I also have some documents in MOBI format, but they're all in the cloud. I don't know if it has something to do with it. My question is: What are these files and are they related to some sideloaded e-book via USB or what? I'm asking because I want to make backup of my AZW3 e-books, specially notes made on my Kindle, and I fear that I can lose data if I don't save these .mbp1 and .mbs files, since I don't know what they are. I deleted these files and it seems that I haven't lost any data, however, I'd like to understand what it really is and if I need to worry. |

Those "sidecar" files (and a folder / directory) are related to "MyClippings.txt" file. And MyClippings.txt is a log file Kindle firmware creates and constantly appends content to anytime you create a bookmark, highlight or a note inside any of your books.
That txt file is what most of "import your Kindle notes" type of programs use / parse to get bookmarks, notes and highlights since none of those developers are bothered to write code that parses those files in book's ".sdr" folder and extract the highlighted text from the book files themselves. Just ignore MyClippings.txt and related files because even if you delete them they will just be recreated the first time you use UI to add bookmark / highlights / notes. |
