Hello, All:
The last couple of updates (I'm now on 5.41) I have noticed that every time I add a book to my library, it always leaves out the space before the last name, whether it be "FirstLast" or "First ILast". I have just noticed another variation: "FirstMiddle Last". I have checked all of my settings and they do not appear changed so I thought I'd check this august group for suggestions. If it is corrected in 5.42 I will have a very red face!! Any suggestions will be most welcome and appreciated. Kind regards, Sparky Last edited by TheArtfulDodger; 05-14-2022 at 02:40 PM. |

Hello Ducks:
By the way, I absolutely LOVE your avatar! Is it real or photo-shopped? On to my problem: My Add Template was identical to yours so that's, unfortunately not the problem. I appreciate your help though! Sparky |

remember, the template REGEX has to align with the source file name for it to trigger. in this case.

@TheArtfulDodger: Do you have any Author mapping rules? If you do, it could be due to the recent change in search that means spaces and punctuation in searches are handled differently.

Hello, All:
I know I sound like a complete nube but I rarely change anything - I simply use the program to organize my library. I do have a number of plug-ins but I've changed nothing for quite some time. I also have a number of tweaks but, again, nothing I have changed in years. I know about templates but I've never (to my knowledge) created one. As for Author Mapping Rules, I can find, in the 'Adding Books' preferences, the author mapping rule that's there, under 'Rules to Manipulate Author Names' but I don't know if what's there is a rule or an example {Change the author name, if it matches regex expression (.*),(.*) to the name \2\1} but I didn't put that there so, unless it's been changed recently, I don't think it applies. [My understanding of what the regex (even in university, regex expressions were not my strong point!) says is 'if name, name' change it to whatever \2\1 means but that's not the kind of construction I've been seeing.] So, I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think I've done anything that resembles what the two of you have suggested could be the problem. But, believe me, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to try and help me and if I'm wrong, please direct me to the area where I should look. Kind regards, Sparky |

The rule is intended to change "LN, FN" names to "FN LN". However, starting in calibre 5 the regex engine changed, allowing .* to match the empty string even when it can match more than that. Does changing the regex expression to "(.+),(.+)" fix your problem? |

Hi, Chaley:
Sorry, but it had no effect that I could tell - mind you I only had two books to try it on, but both of them still had the problem. It's not much of an impact when adding 1 or 2 but my usual pattern is to add 80 to 150 at a time and then it really takes a long time to manually add a space before the last name. Another thing I have noticed at the same time, for a very long time, added books were added LN,FN which could be easily fixed with Quality Check. Now, however, they are coming in as FNLN - no space between! Thanks for your help. Kind regards, Sparky |

I wasn't paying enough attention.
![]() Two choices to fix it. 1) Put a space between \2 and \1 2) Delete the rule and use Quality Check. |

Brilliant!! At least for those two books, it worked a treat. So, my rule is (.+),(.+) and \1 \2 with a space between \1 and \2! I will now try it with some books I've already added and then, if it works, I'll just throw them away!!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my call of need!! Sparky |
