Question Kindle PW3 mobile data in the UK

Hey everyone. Big thanks to this forum for the instructions on jailbreaking and installing KUAL + KOreader.

I have a Paperwhite 3 that was out of date. I updated it to 5.9.6.1 to jailbreak. Everything was successful.

It seems I can only use EDGE now (2G) for the Store. The Experimental Browser can only use WiFI now (it says it is the only connection it can use).

I get contradictory reports about what is going to happen to the mobile data in older Kindles. Are we losing it altogether? Is it just 3G we are losing? Is it just the ability of use the experimental browser with mobile data?

Any news about this? Also, any browser that can be installed on KUAL that is able to use the mobile data feature that I paid for initially? 😭

Thanks!

AFAIR, 2G and 3G is going the way of the dodo. Amazon is no longer willing to pay for using the experimental browser over non-WiFi connections. Oddly, 2G (GSM) is going to survive longer than 3G since quite a few IoT devices in use by large enterprise customers still use GSM and it allows for some older phones without VoLTE to continue operating.

You mean 3g/2g going dodo in terms of Amazon's kindle readers? Or where you are based?

In the UK the 3g disconnection will be in 2033, with Vodafone disconnecting next year. What I'd like to know is if Amazon's kindle os 5.6... that I mentioned above has disabled 3G on purpose and it's now on Edge.

Do you have Wikipedia on EDGE? Anything else was Wi-Fi only on a PW.

My Kindle Keyboard (bought 2012) Experimental Browser still works but Wikipedia would need an Amazon update for a secure connection.

Worldwise, 3G and 2G networks are on life support.

From what I have read, the 2033 date is a drop dead date for 2G/3G and companies are free to discontinue 2G/3G service before then.

I used to have access to any website before the update (I think) I had a very, very old firmware. Now that I updated I can access wikipedia using EDGE (just tried) but only after several errors in ssl connection.

Wikipedia word search from an amazon downloaded book seems to still work
