Over the past few months I have run into the problem of Calibre not starting up, either before updating or, in this latest episode, after updating it. It was working fine, I started it up and got the update notification. I updated it, hit the "Later" option for restart and then try to open up the software; the Windows hourglass appears near my cursor for a split second then nothing happens. I restarted the PC, and the same thing happens. I re-run the installer and chose the "Repair" option with no effect.
I don't remember how previous episodes of this bug were solved; one time at least I just re-ran the installer. Do I have to do that every time this happens? I would really prefer to understand WHY it's happening so I can avoid it. I open the Calibre software infrequently but I have a very significant library that I don't want to lose access to under any circumstances, and right now neither the ebook reader nor the collection manager software are starting up. This bug has been happening in the last year of updates, I didn't use to have this problem. I've always been very satisfied with Calibre. I'm running Windows 10. |

If you're getting a prompt to restart, that means Calibre isn't closed, which I'd suspect to be part of the issue. my Calibre sometimes glitches out and fails to load if I forget to close it before updating (easy to do when you minimize to tray).
Usually running the installer again and using 'repair' will fix it. Make sure to do it after a reboot though. Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-25-2022 at 02:56 PM. |

Today I had the same problem. Somebody in an another thread mentioned to update the display driver, this did the trick for me.
