Kepub option no longer comes up with new Calibre version

Also posted this in the Calibre forum, but wanted to find out if anyone else here in the Kobo forum has had this issue.

I upgraded Calibre to the latest version (3.43) and I no longer have the option to convert ebooks to kepub. My main readers are Kobo, so this is not a good development. Has anyone else encountered this with the latest version?

I do have the Kobo Utilities plugin, which has worked fine forever.

I just converted a file into kepub with 3.43 calibre version. Kepub is still my first output option as usual.

After rebooting my PC, the kepub option came back in the output options. Something must have gotten scrambled during the installation or something!

There is a weird problem with the KoboTouchExtended driver and the Kepub input and output plugins where they suddenly stop working for some people. Sometimes restarting calibre fixes it. Other times the plugins need to be reinstalled. It is rare enough that we haven't been able to see why it happens.

as more information may help to analyse:
I faced converting issues too. It was after 3.43 update but I did not recognise a dependy. Reading the debug text guided me to look at the KoboTouchExtended. It was not installed anymore, totally removed, not only deactivated. After installation, all works as before.

No issue anymore, only for your information.

Same here; for some reason, my KoboTouchExtended plugin became uninstalled as well, but it didn't happen to me until I upgraded to 3.44. No idea why that would happen, but reinstalling it made everything work again.

Funny how this seems to be cropping up for some of us kepub addicts.

I experienced this today when converting some epubs.

Besides the tips mentioned previously, I still had issues converting to kepub. I finally discovered that I was missing the kepub output plugin. Somehow it got uninstalled as I've been converting to kepub for years. And I did not upgrade to a more recent calibre version (on 3.22.1). I may have inadvertently uninstalled it when mucking around with trying to remove Nook DRM.

For those who still may experiencing issues with converting to kepub, I did the following ...

In Calibre:
Plugins > Conversion Output Plugins > Get new plugins button > Filter by name: kepub

Restart calibre after installing and you should be able to convert to kepub.

3 years later just wanted to say thanks for the help, that fixed it for me, Im reading XX by Rian Hughes and its very image heavy, screenshots of news articles etc but double tap to zoom wasnt working, then I realised all my kepubs were suddenly epubs and I had no option to convert them, no idea what happened there but fixed now.
