White lines
I am trying to convert a Word document which has some paragraphs in Word with a grey background. They are quotes from other documents. In word, the quote is a grey background for the whole quote, but when it is converted, it contains white lines between paragraphs.
In the html, whenever I use a <p> it appears the space below is white (see attachment). Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

How to ask a question about conversion problems
In this instance the input file (i.e. the DOCX) is needed. I suspect the Word document uses Paragraph Shading in its Quote style. See attachments - DOCX and EPUB in a ZIP FWIW - I would scrap the shading in Word and use a different font instead. BR |

You are shading Paragraphs. Not the Body. Not the Margins.
Read up on the 'Box Model' at W3C. An e-book is a stack of those boxes inside a box (body box). But I agree with BR. Shading (at the least,) before conversion is a poor idea. Conversion of ANYTHING introduces artifacts. Usually, unwanted. |

Don't use Shading.
The eink has only 14 shades as well as Black and nearly White. Even on OLED or LCD, shaded body text is horrid to read. Exhausting. At worst only shade a heading, and even that looks rubbish. Also shaded items may be poor in Dark Mode, depending how it's implemented. |
