Any hope for Kindle Keyboard?

I have a Kindle Keyboard that has been on the shelf for a number of months and now is unresponsive. I opened it up and took out the battery. The battery reads 3.84v, so it is not dead. Put the battery back in after a while and still unresponsive. I plugged it into my laptop. The charge light goes on, but no folder is opened. lsusb shows "Bus 002 Device 020: ID 15a2:0030 Freescale Semiconductor, Inc." unlike my Kindle Paperwhite which shows "Lab126, Inc." when plugged in.

Is there anything further to be done, or is this Kindle Keyboard dead?

I wondered about that possibility. Given that I run linux here on my laptop, is there a way to pull the required scripts and files out of the live cd image and run it on my working system? That would save me the step of having to create the CD and boot it.

I don't know but you can definitely make a pendrive instead of a CD. I suspect it will be easier than looking for scripts and hoping that they will work on another system.
