Unwanted Table of contents added
I have a problem: when I convert a book, a table of contents is automatically generated and added at the end.
What did I do wrong? Thanks for your help. Last edited by BetterRed; 03-06-2022 at 12:34 AM. Reason: image as thumb |

Is this the reason?
Quote:
The Page Flip features works if (and only if?) this line is added in metadata.opf: Code:
<reference type="text" href="text/part0000.html#debut" title="start"/> Code:
<p class="author" id="debut">The Author</p> At least, it works like this for me during the last 5 years. So, how can I disable the auto-generated ToC, please? I haven't had to do this in months. If I remember correctly, before there was nothing to do to not have a ToC at the end of the book. It seems like something has changed. Am I wrong? Last edited by Pyjam; 03-05-2022 at 09:00 PM. |

Actually, the main problem is that each time the files are saved, the ligatures are removed.
ff LATIN SMALL LIGATURE FF Unicode: U+FB00, UTF-8: EF AC 80 …becomes two separate f, for example. This forces me to convert my books from AZW3 to AZW3 to put the ligatures back. And then, this unwanted auto-generated ToC is added. Is there a way to avoid the removal of the ligatures when then files are saved? Last edited by Pyjam; 03-05-2022 at 09:28 PM. |

If you dont want a generated toc use the option to not generate the toc. As for your ligatures issue, saved by what?

That’s the problem: the option is ignored (or I don’t understand how to use it) and the ToC is always added.
In the picture I posted in my first post, I don’t see what I can do to avoid the ToC. In Calibre Preferences, in Output Options, in AZW3 Output, "Do not add ToC to the book" it also checked. Nevertheless, the ToC is added. When I edit a book, the files are saved when I quit, and then the ligatures are removed. I’m on MacOS 11.5.2, Calibre 5.38. Sorry I cannot reproduce either of your issues. Wit the option under azw3 output to not put the table of contents in the book, not table of contents is inserted. And editing the book boes not change the ff ligature. I suggest you post the conversion log that will tell us what settings you are actually using. Click the jobs button in the lower right corner to get the logs.

OP Are you sure the book does not HAVE a TOC already?
Calibre does not auto-remove those. (and some are not marked as TOC in the OPF. Just naming it Table of Contents does not make it so) |

You may try with the attached book.
It contains ligatures for ff fi fl ffi ffl Open it, add a space somewhere, save and close, reopen. All ligatures have been replaced with bigramms and trigramms. |

The book is not free of rigtht. I cannot post the full content of the log folder. I see that it contents the complete book.
Either I post a specific file or I sent the whole by private message. Anyway, I can see there are files up to part0088.html But after conversion part0089.html is added. |

Ah, you meant hardcoded unicode ligatures. I strongly recommend against using those as readers often dont have fonts capable of rendering them and modern readers will ligaturize these automatically anyway when using appropriate fonts. But in any case, here is the fix:

Kovid is just letting you know that a fix will be in the next release if calibre, and that if you run from source that this was the change made.
