Post Handwriting notes on kobo epub home-made?

Hello everybody!

I use to convert free e-books to .kepub format via Calibre or via Kepubify because in Kobo Readers I prefer them over normal .epub format.
But in Kobo Elipsa (and I think so in Sage too) it isn't possible handwriting on "home-made" .kepubs...

Do you know any trick about it?

I know at one point there was a patch for this. But I don’t recall the firmware it was for, and it doesn’t seem to have made it into the official patches

Handwriting is really only useful in the Advanced Notebook, or on Scanned PDFs.
It's an inferior non-portable way to annotate epubs / kepubs unless they add conversion to text.

I've an Elipsa. Really it's an ereader plus and ewriter with ability to scribble on scanned PDFs. The stylus/pencil is essentially pointless at the moment for real annotation on epubs, kepubs, DRM PDFs, OCR or Text based PDFs compared to highlight and type in a note.

A BT keyboard does work in the note window when annotating, but oddly the Advanced Notebooks ONLY allow pen/stylus input with optional conversion. I can't see the point of the basic scribble only Notebooks.

I find the Elipsa handwriting and annotation with stylus (third party) works well for my epubs and PDFs requiring editing, certainly not pointless. As mentioned above, I believe there is a patch for kepubs.

What 3rd party stylus and how does that make any difference at all?

And how do you export them to use on Mac/Windows/Linux? It's rubbish compared to text copy & paste via Kobo Utilities in Calibre. I've annotated and copied back 100s of files for years.
It's not entirely pointless on a PDF that's only scanned images as there is no other way to annotate those.

Validity of the feature aside, I'm also curious to know if there's a patch available that will allow annotations on side-loaded kepubs. Yeah, text conversion would be a bonus, but notes at all are a good start.

There was a patch made for the Elipsa when it first came out. I don't know if it has been updated for newer firmware.
