Page Numbers on Kindle iPad App
Hello! I wasn't sure if this should go in the Apple forum or the Kindle forum. Since the Kindle app was developed by Amazon, I thought I'd start here. I'm a former Kindle user who switched to iBooks several years ago. I checked out the new (to me, at least) Kindle app on iPad and really liked it. However, when I emailed myself some books to add to my library, I found they were missing page numbers. I vastly prefer page numbers to the 'Location' system.
I have tried to open books in Kindle directly from my iPad's files app and that didn't work either. The books I do upload have page numbers on my wife's kindle, but not on my iPad. My understanding is that page numbers are actually on a separate file other than the mobi file, and so they do not 'come with' the mobi when I open it on my iPad's Kindle App. Some solutions I found on this forum are to use the Page Count plugin for Calibre and to use KFX and AZW files. I tried this, and neither of those file types appear to be supported by my Kindle App. Several people seem to have got it to work, and I'm sure it's something on my end that is going wrong. Any help would be appreciated! ![]() |

It's possible if you still have your kindle, it works, and is registered to your amazon account, but it involves a bit of work.
The steps are: download to your kindle over wifi or copy over USB open and close the book on the kindle and copy the book.apnx file in the book.sdr directory on the kindle to your computer pass the book through calibre, then use kindlunpack to convert the book and associated book.apnx to EPUB email the EPUB to your kindle library |

I'm not certain because I don't use macs and have never emailed anything to my kindle account, but yes I think it would work. I think you have to rename the epub file to a zip file. The key is that amazon provides a conversion service via email. Your mac kindle app would not be downloading an EPUB, it would be downloading in whatever compatble format amazon converts it to.

The Kindle app for iOS supports KFX but it does not register it as an acceptable file type so you can’t use the standard methods to send a KFX file to that app. You can sideload a KFX file to the app using iTunes, at lest under Windows, and it works. I don’t know about using a Mac to do it.

I wish someone like odamizu would put together a comprehensive tutorial on it. |
