KOReader and Nova 3
My search for a new 7.8"+ device that works with KOReader best still continues. I am leaning to Kobo Forma but ereader.store has a sweet discount for Onyx Nova 3 and I am really considering it too.
My questions are about Nova 3's KOReader performance for pdfs. 1) Is it fast, sluggish or in-between? 2) I think I read stg. about screen flickering issue on Nova 3. Is there such a problem? 3) Leaving aside the stylus-pen pros and cons, which one do you recommend me to buy for KOReader: Forma or Nova 3? |

It's reported as working but I don't know what performance is like. You could try pinging @deep-dark-blue over on GitHub?
In theory there should be little reason for it to be noticeably slower or faster than a Kobo Forma. The physical buttons on the Libra/Forma are nice to have. |

I haven't had any screen flickering. I haven't read about any such issues either. I personally strongly prefer the Android environment due to greater flexibility (syncing files between my computer, my phone and my Nova 3; 3rd party dictionary support; any reading app I want (I could have a book open in each app and switch between them depending on what I want to read (instead of manually opening and switching books within the reading app itself))). The Nova 3 is also a much more powerful device. Compared to my Kindle PW3 everything is snappy: moving around in the interface, opening books, switching between books/dictionaries, etc. If the Forma is significantly cheaper, or you really want physical page turn buttons, and you only intend to read PDFs - buy it. Otherwise I would go for the Nova 3. |

If you do get a Nova 3 remember to grab KOReader off their github or F-droid. The one in the Oynx app "store" is ancient. |

I have an additional question for Nova 2 or 3 users: is it possible to adjust the warm light from within KOReader? On my Likebook Mars it only works for the cold light.
Thanks. |

For the gestures? If I click on the frontlight setting in KOReader both work but for gestures only the cold works for some reason on my Nova 2, maybe a bug. However it's kinda moot as you can set gestures for doing that system wide.

It's kinda unstable on a nova 1 IME. I can adjust white and orange light from within koreader, but I'm on android 6. I read later android versions restrict that.
IMO the only advantage of koreader over the default neo reader is the Reverse night mode. For reading non-pdf type files, alreaderx is excellent. Last edited by Pajamaman; 02-22-2022 at 04:58 PM. |

Good to know though that Boox offer systemwide gestures. I've watched several reviews on Youtube but nobody ever mentioned this (or I missed it). Are the possible gestures preset or is it also possible to program custom gestures as in KOReader? Btw, what happens if there's a conflict between a system gesture and one in KOReader - are both executed? (No worries if you never tried that, it's not that important lol.) |

If you have a KOReader gesture set it will try to do that instead of the system one. So you have disable them for the system one to work. It's a somewhat new feature I think? Added in 3.2 I'm pretty sure. |
