Weird noise while reading
When I am reading I can constantly hear my libra making a weird electronic noises, that sounds a little like coil whine. I've had this before with an e-reader but only when turning the page. I'm rather bothered by it, because it's relatively loud: I can hear it from a distance of 40 cm. Is there something that can be done about this, in terms of fixing it myself, or sending it back? I do hope this is not normal behaviour from the libra 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure there's something you can do about it. Listen to death metal for a few hours while cranking the volume to 11 till your hearing degrades to the point you no longer hear that noise.

I've seen various posts like this (and usually about the Libra). But, I've never seen a single solution. In computers, it's usually caused by the inductors on the gpu vibrating because of the high frequency they operate at. It's just flabbergasting that there would be any equivalent in a static display e-ink screen.
I suppose some mechanical wizard with a lot of money and spare ereaders could open one up, listen for whatever's making the noise and put a dab of hot glue or something on it. But, no one's ever done anything like that on YouTube. And, I can't see a normal person doing it. |

My Libra (1) does this, but only when charging. You could try unplugging the USB cable, if the reader was/is charging.
Try a reboot, too. Probably won't do anything, but it is worth trying, we never know ![]() |

Others have mentioned hearing an electronic whine in the past. And did have it from one of my Kobos. But, I had to hold it close to my ear. I can't remember which it was, and none are speaking to me now. It might have gone away, or my hearing is.
Do you have it in a case? There is a good chance that would block the sound. In any case, if it is as loud as you say, and it bugs you, take it back and exchange it. Hopefully another one won't be as loud. |

I opened up the device to see inside and figure out exactly what the problem is. Using my hearing and the lay-out of the circuit, it's highly probable that part LA3 is the culprit at hand, supporting the theory that the noise is, in fact, coil whine. However, this cannot be fixed by a user, as applying any kind of pressure does not lessen the noise. If this happens to anyone else in the future, and the noise is too loud and therefore too disrupting whilst reading, I do indeed recommend returning it (instead of fruitlessly voiding the warranty).
The e-reader was not connected to a power supply, and the front light was not on. The battery was at 90%. The problem does not seem to depend on the book. Last edited by A-Curiosity; 02-03-2022 at 11:50 AM. |

You should still try and exchange it
