Disable Android device open on File manager by default

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...20is%20enabled

> If you are on Linux and the device is an MTP device, make sure it is not automounted by the OS/file manager as only one program can access an MTP device at a time.

https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...ng-a-usb-cable

> Note that on macOS and Linux only a single program can connect to an Android device at a time, so make sure the device is not opened in the OS File manager, or the Android File Transfer utility, etc

How to do that?
Currently when I connect my Android device as MTP, the File manager detects/opens_up the device automatically...

---

I'm on Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon & using default file manager Nemo 5.2.4...
I'm new to Calibre & this is my 1st forum post

Fortunately, this is pretty easy on Linux Mint (Cinnamon DE, see Quoth’s post below for Mate):

Open Nemo, select Edit → Preferences. In the window File Management Preferences, go to Behaviour and scroll down to Media Handling. Then untick the checkbox marked Automatically mount removable media when inserted and on start-up.

Violà—no more automounting on USB inserts!

If you’re connecting MTP devices and don’t want to lose the automounting, there is another possible way to handle this:
  • Be sure that Calibre isn’t running.
  • Let your device automount, but immediately unmount it again (Nemo left pane, under devices, click the "eject" button)
  • Start Calibre. It should now be able to connect to your device.
  • When finished, unmount/eject your device using Calibre’s Device option.

And welcome to the forums!

Those Nemo instructions don't work with Mate desktop and Caja file manager. There are two solutions:
1) Let the gadget mount and then unmount it on the desktop icon. Calibre should be able to connect. Some devices won't reconnect!

OR
BEFORE connecting device
2) For devices that won't connect after unmount: Go System Monitor (on start menu, right click, then left click in front of list of running programs. Select Processes. Scroll down to "gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor", right click and "stop process". Don't kill it as it will automatically restart. Plug in device, run Calibre. After eject in calibre, unplug device and right click "continue process". Do not save from Web browser while "gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor" is stopped, or caja crawls.

My device connect to Calibre after unmount (from FM) but thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm new to linux as well so always good to know few small tricks.

Another related question:
How to setup my Android as MTP by default?
Currently it connects as "only charge" by default.

Tried Device settings> System> Developer options> Select USB Configuration> MTP
But I falls back to charging mode when I reconnect the device.
I'm on android 8.1.0 (unroofed) Android limitations?
