Sorting authors with same last name?
I'm coming across an issue with the way my Kobo sage is handling the author sort in my library. When I have two authors with the same last name, Kobo is sorting the books alphabetically as if they were all by the same author. For example, books on the device by Cormac McCarthy and Tom McCarthy are sorted in the library as:
Cormac McCarthy - No Country for Old Men Tom McCarthy - Remainder Cormac McCarthy - The Road Tom McCarthy - Satin Island I'd like to have that same list appear as: Cormac McCarthy - No Country for Old Men Cormac McCarthy - The Road Tom McCarthy - Remainder Tom McCarthy - Satin Island In Calibre, I have the authors field formatted as FN LN. I'm using Code:
library/{authors} - {title} |

The last name is taken into account there and the books are arranged alphabetically... I would leave it as it is, but if you very want to organize, add an unbreakable space to the metadata (between the first name and the last name of the author). But this is a bad way... |

Firstly, the filename is not important. The device reads the metadata from the book and uses that. The filename is only used if the book format does not have any metadata. And in that case, the filename is used as the title, and the author is "Unknown Author" (or something like that).
As @Semwize said, it is sorting on lastname and the title. I have never noticed that and assume it would sort using "lastname, firstname" and then title. And as @Semwize said, I don't think there is a good way to fix this. People who want the sorting to use "firstname lastname" will replace the space with a non-breaking space or maybe an underscore. Or, if they want to use "lastname, firstname" they replace the comma and space with something else that looks the same, but, is not treated the same. Personally, I consider this to be a bug. The author sort should keep the books by the same author together. I recommend reporting it to Kobo so that they can fix it. I'm wondering if it is a bug that has crept in recently as I don't remember it being mentioned before. And it feels like something I would have seen. |

Okay, then at least I can stop trying to figure out a solution if I know its a bug lol. I can live with it, just hope it gets fixed at some point.
I agree, it's not worth it for me to use a nbsp to fix it. The only other workaround I've been able to find is to use the author sort in place of the author name which sends to the device as LN,FN , but that ruins the Authors tab organization so again... not worth it Last edited by reptileINT; 01-20-2022 at 12:05 AM. |
