How to get Sleep screen to display the time?

Hi, I'm new here and I hope this is the right place to post my question.
I recently purchased a Kobo Nia ereader.
I would like to get it to display the time on the Sleep screen. This is so I can look at it during the night to see the time and not need to keep my phone by the bed.
Can anyone help?

Thank you

Robert

I don't believe there are any mods that do that. In many ways it goes counter to the idea of a sleep screen, which is there as a low (no) power screen during periods of non use

I don't think that will ever be a feature unfortunately.
The screen in sleep mode actually not refreshed until you wake up the device again. The system goes into a sleep mode where the screen is not supplied with power.

Showing a clock on there would mean the processor should be kept running and the screen would need a refresh at least every minute. This will be very taxing on the battery so I don't think Kobo will implement this as a feature.

The closest you're going to get might be a custom application you can launch which displays the time, but obviously keeps the device from entering the true "sleep mode".

I'm not sure how much the processor would need to be "kept running". My understanding is that during reading, the page is rendered and displayed, but then goes into a lower powered state, waiting for an input.

So in theory, waking once a minute wouldn't need to have the processor " kept running".

FWIW, this not an dndorsemdnt for or against the feature, and I may not know what I am talking about.

But wouldn't it need to be running a timer in order to wake up every 60 seconds? But it may be possible to have a timer that's not running on the main cpu so you could be right.

Isn't there a similar method used for "automatically sleep/shutdown after X minutes"?

Yes, but in that situation the cpu is already running.

When the reader is asleep then the cpu is not running. Or perhaps more properly, it's semi running in a low power mode where it's not doing all of the regular stuff like paying attention to the page turn buttons or taps and swipes on the screen, but it does wake up when the power button is pressed or the magnet sensor senses the cover has been opened.

Absolutely. It's completely different.

A 2 ($ £ €) LCD or mechanical quartz clock will go for a year on an AA cell, much more useful.

Any decent size clock on Eink even once a minute will use power as if you are reading a book.

Just for my clarification.

If I have sleep set to 5 minutes and shutdown to 60 minutes, that 55 minutes while it sleeping isn't like sleep if I picked "never" for a shutdown?

Good point, that may be what I was thinking about when up above I said

It could be that the power off timer runs on a separate timer, not on the cpu, and when it fires it's interrupt level is like pressing the power button when it's asleep except that the cpu sees that it's the timer firing and shuts down. The ESP cpu that's used for IOT has something like that as I remember; a low power sleep that can be woken from a separate timer going off.

So technically I'd guess it could be done to have the time displayed on the sleep screen. But it may require different or more chips which could raise the costs beyond profitable levels.

And yes, I'm flip flopping / talking out of both sides of my mouth.

No problem. I was curious since Quoth said "absolutely".
