ADE reauthorization?

I have an old Kobo Touch.

ADE has worked off and on for a while now, but the past month or so, mostly not working. (I use Libby on my tablet when it won't let me transfer to my Kobo, but I'd much rather use my Kobo.)

My concern with having to reauthorize is that I a) don't remember my password, and b) the email account I originally used to set it up no longer exists, so I can't easily reset my password.

Would it work if I started over and created a new Adobe Digital account?

(A couple of years ago - not sure of timing - I did contact Adobe with this issue (the no-longer-existing email, so I am unable to reset my password), but they didn't want to help... from what I remember it's because it's a free service, so the guy "helping" wasn't any help.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you're using a new email address, I don't see why creating a new account would cause a problem.

Sorry Libby's not working for you. That's my backup (via my tablet), just not my preference to use.

Good luck to hopefully someday figure out the issue.

Thank you! I'm just nervous about de-authorizing, so wanted a bit of reassurance, I suppose. I will likely give this a try after Christmas.

I use a password generator to create and store passwords such as ADE and Kobo. It's not just about security, but also memory management. Most people have over 200 passwords, and even if they're all easy to remember you will likely forget some.

The free password generator I use only requires me to memorize one password, and while it's kept on my PC I can still store smartphone-only passwords, etc, on it. (There are free generators that work on smartphones as well. If you care about security I do not suggest using one that keeps all the info stored online. Mine can literally be run from a USB key.)

Which password generator do you use?

That's a good idea. My previous boss did this and has suggested it, as well.

For my old ADE password, though, it was one I set up over 10 years ago, so I'm not even sure if such things were around then!

I finally took a few minutes today (after finding instructions on how to deauthorize ADE without the password!) to deauthorize, then reauthorize both ADE and my Kobo with my new Adobe ID (aka my new email and password).

Sadly, it didn't help. The library books (well, I've only tried one at this point) downloaded fine and I can open it on ADE, but after transferring to my Kobo it is still telling me it's not authorized.

Sigh... not sure what to try next. In the meantime, I have to continue to use Libby via my tablet.

I use Linux and never could get my computer to work with Wine and ADE. Now I use Calibre and two plugins, DeASCM and DeDRM. Together they download and clear the DRM from your .ascm files so you can just sideload them to your Touch (or any ePub eReader). This puts you on the honor system for library books, however. (Since I have a PocketBook, with built-in ADE, I don't usually use Calibre, DeASCM and DeDRM for borrowing Overdrive books. But it is an option.)

I've heard of Calibre but not the others. Might have to investigate and figure out how to use them.
Thank you!
