Problems Putting Books on Mini

A few years ago I gave a Kobo Mini to a friend. Because he doesn't like messing about with Calibre but I do, he usually hands it to me when he wants more books.

It's been a while since I've put anything on the Mini and when I tried recently the 'uploading books' line hasn't appeared when I've ejected the Kobo.

I've been ejecting the same way as for my Libra 2: my computer -> Libra -> eject. Nothing happens. I have to use the slide button to turn the Mini on, but the books I've just tried to load aren't there.

So I tried ejecting it from the taskbar icon "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media". Still nothing happens to the Kobo. No books load; and I have to use the slide button to turn on the device.

What am I doing wrong?

I had a similar problem when I first started using the Libra 2. Turned out that I was ejecting it wrongly - I was using the taskbar icon when I should have used the Start Menu Computer method.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Use Calibre to eject, not the OS.

You should be ejecting using Calibre. On the toolbar is an icon labeled Device. You can use that to see what's on it and to eject. Left click to see what's on it and right click to eject.

Also have you tried copying an Epub to the device using file explorer? Additionally can you see the files calibre has copied?

The time and date were wrong, so I've set them correctly. I'm not sure how this would affect side-loading, but it's worth having them correct.

I think (though I'm not sure) that I've used both Calibre and Windows Explorer to put books on the device.

I'll try ejecting from Calibre later today. That's something I haven't done.
At the moment, the Libra 2 is recharging and all my USB ports are occupied. Will let you know the results.

Thanks so much for the suggestions.

Ejecting from Calibre worked. It didn't do anything to the reader until I pulled the USB out of the device, then it seemed to buffer to process the books.

Thank you!

Remember if you had any other app accessing the Mini (file explorer, command prompt sitting on the drive letter of the mini) the eject would have failed until the cable was pulled.
