Issue Opening Calibre 5.33.2

I’m having trouble with Calibre version 5.33.2 on Windows 10. I can’t open it.

I initially had issues installing it and needed to change permission from System to Admin. Then it worked fine, that was last week.
Today it wouldn’t open so I redownloaded it and installed it, it opened fine.

Now it won’t open at all. I’ve tried to reinstall it but it now only gives option to change, repair or remove it. I’ve tried repair but it still won’t open.

Can anyone help please? Thanks

Open the Windows command prompt and type

Code:
calibre-debug -g
And then post the output so that someone can see if anything is being reported by calibre.

Kovid's usual advice in this situation is to:
  1. uninstall calibre (doing this won't delete your libraries)
  2. delete c:\Program Files\calibre (or wherever you installed it)
  3. install a fresh copy.
This process gets rid of any damaged components.

Thank you. This is the debug screenshot. I have a windows 11 pc and a mac and they are both fine on 5.32 btw. I haven't upgraded them to 5.33 yet.

I'm happy to do this, although very nervous tbh, but i'd rather know what the problem is with 5.33, or my PC, before I do this. I have two other pc's, a W11 and a mac, both on 5.32, I won't upgrade them to 5.33 until I know whats wrong on my W10 pc.

Given the debug log it is almost certainly a corrupted calibre installation. There isn't any way I know of to determine exactly how it became corrupted.

One way it can happen is if the C: file system is corrupt, causing cruft to be written in various places. It is a good idea to check the C: file system. Right click on the C drive, pick Properties / Tools / Error checking.

Hi Chaley, I did uninstall my calibre program and reinstalled it. I have stayed with 5.32 for now as I know that works fine with all my pc's. I'm not one to update religiously anyway, I just needed to as I bought a Kobo Libra 2.
