Kindle 10 vs. Kindle Paperwhite 3

Hi,

I'm looking for some basic e-book reader. I hesitate between the Kindle 10 and the Kindle
Paperwhite 3. Both refurbished and available for the same price.

I am looking at a comparison of both models and the Paperwhite 3 seems to be a better choice, however, this is a 7th generation device (Kindle 10 is the 10th generation).
I have no practical knowledge of such readers and I do not know if the generation matters here.

In your opinion, which would be better?

I have read that the generation of the device does not matter much to the user. However, the Paperwhite 3 is currently the oldest Amazon device to receive updates (if it still does). Could the lack of updates be a big problem in the future?

PW3 would be my choice of them.

The lack of updates is hardly going to be a big problem. I can still read books on my old Kindles from 2011, which haven't been updated for years. Or I could, if I wanted to, that is.

If the Kindle10 is the PW4, go with the PW3. Amazon really did a botch job on the screen of the PW4. The PW3's screen is much better.

Kindle 10 is the basic kindle from 2019.

So 300dpi PW3 versus 167dpi Basic might be a consideration.

The Kindle 10 is going to use the same Kindle app that is added to computers. The major differences are that you also have a choice of a sepia or green tint to the reading screen via the Kindle settings, and in bright sunlight you'll have glare on the screen. The Kindle 10 gives you access to the internet, streaming media & apps, while the Paperwhite is strictly a reading app.

Having said that, and as someone with three different Fires and two different Paperwhites, I prefer to do my reading on the Paperwhites.

Kindle 10 is not a Fire. It's a basic eink kindle.

Then it's a no-braner. Get the PW3. The Kindle Basic is OBSOLETE!

PW3 has a better screen. Crisper. I use one for my magazine collection (I use Voyage for most of my reading).

Despite the lower resolution screen, I think the Kindle (10th gen) is very pleasant to hold (it is lighter than PW3), and depending on how old it is, it will have 8Gb storage instead of 4GB that PW3 has. It will also play audiobooks if you have any.

Some of the 7th Generation Paperwhites have 8GBs. But, even if they don't, I can't see using 167 dpi screen over a 300 dpi one. For me the screen is the highest priority.
