metadata.opf updated for no reason
I am on Calibre 5.32. I noticed that a few books got updated to the most recent date.
I opened the folder for the book entry and the metadata.opf file has the most recent date. The epub and jpg date properties is the date that book was entered into Calibre. I am certain that I did not update the metadata or opened the book in Calibre viewer today. What would cause the metadata.opf file to get updated to most recent date? |

I compared the metadata.opf file with a backup that I took last week.
Both opf file has identical content. |

Those files can have a CaSe ChaNge
caused by any book updating a Tag or Author or Publisher case Calibre uses a Relational Database structure. Things are define ONCE and Linked to each usage. Those a BACKUP file for the current metadata.db (Your Library spreadsheet) entry. The book is not updated within the Library unless you take other steps. |

In one of the books where I did not touch the metadata or opened the book, the MODIFIED was updated to today.
When I compare the OPF of this book to another Calibre backup, the difference was "calibre (5.32.0)" vs "calibre (5.28.0)" in my backup ================================================= <dc:contributor opf:file-as="calibre" opf:role="bkp">calibre (5.32.0) [https://calibre-ebook.com]</dc:contributor> <dc:date>2014-06-20T07:00:00+00:00</dc:date> ================================================= What causes the OPF to be updated with the CONTRIBUTOR to be updated with the current version of Calibre that I am running. |

The OPF files are not for use by anyone other than calibre. Why they are updated or when or for what purpose is nobody's business other than calibre.
To repeat: The OPF files are an internal backup mechanism calibre uses. Pretend they dont exist. |
