N647 vs N647B

Hello everyone,

pardon my ignorance, but I was wondering if there is a difference between the N647 and N647B aside from the color?

I have an N647B, and in my pursuit to upgrade it to 1.9.12 I was able to get a device with it so i extracted the image from the internal SD and applied it to my device but it didn't work.

now my device would simply light up blue for a few seconds and then turn off.

Yes, the internal hardware is different. The image from one will not work on the other. To fix that, you will need an image for the original device. That is available if you didn't make one or use a different card.

There is a reasonable chance the firmware is still on the Kobo server. Finding the link is what would be needed. I'm sure it has been posted, but, can't find it now. I thought it might be in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=221072, but, it isn't in the first few pages.

Of course, the Kobo desktop application might still update it. I don't remember exactly what Kobo said about this for the WiFi when they announced they were withdrawing support.

I found the wiki with the links to the updates but since my device is not booting it does not help me at this time.

Would you happen to have the SD Image for N647B?

Why don't you just restore the backup of the original SD image?

I tried... but i think the backup was bad, even after restoring the backup i made for my N647B it still doesn't boot.

and in looking at the image I created from N647B compared to the one from N647 I can see that my backup is much much smaller than it should be, which was a total oversight on my part.

Never mind, we can close this Thread, the main question has been answered.
the fact is that N647B and N647 have different hardware, and the SD Image of one does not necessarily work on the other.

So as a cautionary tale, just because the model number is similar it does not mean the underlying hardware is the same.

I will ask for the SD Image on the appropriate thread.
