Can I downgrade to 5.11 with fastboot?

I just bought a PW3 with 5.12.7. According to the pinned thread there is no way to prevent OTA with this version, and I want stable JB. I'm guessing I can just use fastboot to override the fw partition. Have anyone tried this? Also, how can I acquire the older firmware?

The thread isn't accurate - check this out. There's an additional updater at boot time which will update if an official firmware file is found on the device but the extension in the link will prevent your kindle from downloading an OTA update in the first place.

No, this isn't possible via Fastboot. Parts of Lab126's implementation of the Fastboot protocol are broken (specifically, flashing the main firmware partition), will fail silently and will likely brick your device.

You can downgrade the main firmware partition by manually flashing a rootfs image from diags if you have a serial connection to the device but it's kind of a pain.

Thanks for the pointer!

Glad I don't have to figure that out myself :)
