Calibre 5.31.1 say data base unsupported
On my KA1 Version 4.30.18838, Calibre 5.31.1 says the data base is unsupported when adding books.

What needs to be done?

Wait until Friday when a new version of Calibre is released. It will know about the version 4.30.18838 firmware.

I thought Calibre was kept up to date with Kobo version releases.

It is which is what will be in the next version of Calibre on Friday.

Which has been the case since long before you got your Kobo. It’s literally always in the thread for the firmware as are the instructions to get Calibre to work with the new version and if it’s safe to do so.

Yes it is. But, there is also timing. If Kobo release a firmware update five minutes after an calibre update is released, then you won't see it in calibre until the next release. And they have done pretty much that more than once.
