What to to/install on a brand new DR1000S

I just placed my order for the DR1000S on irexshop, so I expect to get it probably on the end of January

I'd like to be efficiently using the DR as soon as I get it, so I'd like to ask all the long time users to post their suggestions what is a good thing to do/good programs to install on a brand new DR...
FBreader? Where does one get the current version?
Are there any options/preferences one has to change for more optimal performance?
Any other programs?
Which tricks are good to know when you start using the DR?
....

I guess all the above was answered somewhere on this forum, but I can't make a good resumé...

Did they quote such a late date? Cause I am waiting for mine and they just emailed me a ready to dispatch status....

The FBReader on the DR1000S is exactly the latest Linux Desktop version, which is very similar to the Windows and (unofficial) Mac versions. See FBReader for Desktop downloads (DR1000S downloads are from FBReader Release for the DR1000S). You can check your ebooks for FBReader compatibility on a PC before the DR1000S arrives.

I'm not sure what else you can do ahead of your DR1000S arriving. The built in Java MobiPocket Reader is similar to what you can run under Windows, but the "Java" part implies some limitations. You may want to buy a commercial MOBI dictionary and any dictionary known to work on the iLiad (or the DR1000S obviously) is ok, but a few don't work on the Java reader. Any DRMed MOBIs you buy now will have to be redownloaded with your DR1000S PID once it arrives, but this is routine.

No, they didn't say anything about when my order should arrive, but I am guessing that it will take probably a month from what I read on this forum...
I placed my order on the 19th, it is still "Pending credit card verification", so I guess it will ship no sooner than on the January 2 or 5

oh ok I see. I hope I get mind at least in the beginning of January....btw does anyone know if they offer some timeframe where you might want to return the device with a posibble restocking fee?
