Reading Kobo logs
Hi all,
I'm playing with syncing my Kobo with calibre-web and I'm having some problems so I'd like to look at the logs on the Kobo. I enabled devmode, turned on 3 logs, ran a sync and then saved the logs, and now I have 3 log files in my root folder, which I copied over to my computer. The problem is that they appear to be binary data, not test - can anyone give me a hint on how to read them? Thanks John |

The Kobo logs won't show much of use at all. They're encrypted and don't contain much.
You're better off running calibre in debug mode and the posting the calibre log for our expert (@davidfor ) to interpret. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

Thanks - I assume you meant the calibre-web log? I already started a post over on calibre/related tools (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...69#post4166469), but I though I'd take a stab at the problem myself.

As PeterT said, the logs that nickel produces are encrypted. This wasn't always the case, but, it has been done due to privacy concerns when the logs are uploaded to Kobo for support. And before anyone complains, they are not uploaded automatically. If you have a problem, Kobo may ask for you to upload them. The encryption is so that only the developers can look at the content.
nickel uses syslog on port 5001 or something like that. From memory, there is a configuration in NickelMenu to turn on the capturing of the syslog to a file. You will probably need to do that. From your other thread, the logs you have are from calibre-web. You will need to talk to the calibre-web developer about those. There should be instructions on how to get support from then included in either the calibre-web package or wherever you downloaded it from. The developer does visit here, but I don't know how often. |

I think the best approach is to visit his GitHub page and open an issue. https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web
