Separate database from library content

Hi,
I would like to know, if and how it is possible to separate Calibres database files from the library folder.
I would like to have the database in ~/.calibre/ or ~/.config/calibre/, but the library content in an arbitrary location.
This would allow more easily to ...
  • refer to a given folder with ebook content
  • refer to a library on optional external device
  • share library content with others
  • decrease footprint of incremental backup from $HOME

Do take time to read the Calibre FAQ at the Official HELP site.
Do Pay particular attention to Network connected Storage warnings.

But KISS
Calibre allows any LOCAL folder (full access needed)
Right click the Library Icon: Switch/Create <look at all the choices>

Settings (and plugins) are still stored in you User area, but those are tiny and mainly affect how Calibre behaves,

BTW you can have as many Libraries as you need using the above
(eg you might want to keep 'adult' content separate)
OTOH consider using a V(irtual L(ibrary) to avoid duplicating the same books. IMHO Separate only when the STRUCTURE (custom columns) or Security dictates the need.
