Downgraded from 4.23 to 3.48-can't delete books

I just downgraded from v4.23 64 bit to 3.48 64 bit and while it went smoothly, it kept all of my settings and library location, but I can't delete books from Calibre. I have to run the portable version 5.9 to delete the books. I get an SQL Error: no such module fts:5 when I try and delete any books. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I run Window 7 which is why I downgraded to an older version, the ebook viewer kept crashing my display drivers with the versions over 4.

If you opened a calibre library in a version 5 release of calibre then it was upgraded in a way that makes it no longer compatible with any calibre version prior to 4.23.

To fix it, you'll need to make a new library with "copy structure" option checked and then copy all your books into it.

The solution is to install the latest 64-bit Calibre 5. Why is it you went back to 3.48?

Do you mean that version 5.x doesn't work but 4.23 does work? If that is the case, stick with version 4.23. Another thing to try is go to the site of the company that made your video card and download and install the latest video card driver and try the Calibre 5.9 that you have installed.

May not be an option, though. The "Device" part of Ellie's profile indicate that they're using a netbook, which is known for having...not so great hardware.

Please stop giving "solutions" that aren't actually solutions.

One thing I have found is that Calibre 5 is faster then previous versions. So that would be an advantage to running Calibre on a netbook providing it worked.

Thanks for the info. I did that but when I try and switch to it, it says that it's the same library and won't switch to it. I tried moving it different places and then gave up on it. LOL
I also tried copying the metadata.db from the new library to the old one (I saved the old one first) and then nothing showed up for a library.
Any further ideas?

Sorry about that but I haven't used a netbook for years, forgot to change it on my profile. I use a PC with Win7 on it.

Try naming it something like My New Library, a unique name. I can't remember how to rename it back though.

No, I have Win7 so the latest one I had on there was v4.23. And I only kept updating because I need it to manage my Kobo library and when they update their firmware I have to update Calibre to do that. But all versions starting with Calibre 4 were crashing my device drivers off and on. I checked and they're the latest drivers so updating them wasn't an option. I have now found out that I can use Calibre v5 portable and it will manage my Kobo library so I was able to downgrade back to a version that worked better with Win7.

I just tried that and although it switched, it showed no books in the library inside of Calibre.

Yes, you'll need to copy the books from My Library to My New Library. It only copies structure so that no data from custom columns is lost during that.

Unfortunately, you can't share a library between 5.x and older versions without the errors occuring. In this case, it might be for the best to stick with your portable version, or use a separate library for your device books.
