Page View Nook Magazines
I do not know if this is the right forum but I use Calibre to import/convert my digital media so it seems a good place to start. Please direct me where if I'm in the wrong place.
I get most of my magazines from B&N on my nook. They can be presented in two different ways from the same epub file: "page view" and "article view". Page view is just as the pages look in the magazine. Article view is a more slimmed down version with half the articles and such missing. I'd like to store the magazine in page view if at all possible. I read speculation that the page view might just be a series of images that are displayed while the article view is the classic epub format, but I haven't been able to confirm that. The epub that ends up in my Calibre library doesn't have any images that aren't part of the article view. Is there... settings? and add-on? Something that would store the magazine in page view instead of (or along with) article view? G |

The B&N magazine format is a proprietary extension of EPUB that is not supported by other reading software including calibre. It uses a replicaMap.xml file that links to page images and also provide links between articles and pages.
You should be able to see the replicaMap.xml file and the images it links to in the original EPUB from B&N. Because calibre is unaware of the extra files involved, if you attempt to convert a B&N magazine to another format all of the extra files, including the page images, will be removed. Ok, that's understandable and I found the images in the original epub. Now is there a way to request Calibre to support the format since it's pretty straight forward (even if just to serialize the images without the TOC links)?

It's not a common enough format for me to bother adding support for it, but if all you want to do is view the images, then you can use the unpack book tool in calibre to get all the images out, zip them up and rename the result to .cbz and convert that to epub.

Sorry to hear that but what is, is. I could do what you suggest to get the page view images but that's a lot of work. Part of what I have Calibre for is to reduce my workload. I will do... something.
TY for a great program otherwise. |
